like father, like son...

Does anyone else have boys that do this?

Duane says he remembers having a dump truck like this one when he was younger and would run around the house pushing it all day.

Well, like father, like son...

I think we have tire track marks worn in our hardwood floors now. He runs around the house several times a day with this dump truck, and it's not the quitest thing in the world either. But you gotta love the joy he has on his face when he's racing his truck. Ready, set, go....

I am thankful for....

For this post I wanted to get into the thanksgiving spirit and write some of the things I am thankful for. So here goes....

1. I am thankful for a loving and patient husband and for my 3 wonderful kids who give me joy everyday of my life.
2. I am thankful for my friends. Which if it weren't for Facebook.com I wouldn't know I had so many. :)
3. I am thankful for my home.
4. I am thankful for my health. I started working out about 10 years ago, after the birth of Danielle, and I'm lucky to be someone who loves to work out. I'm grateful to have taken that first step and discovered something I enjoy. Which in return makes me not only a happier person but a healthier one.
5. I am thankful for my church calling as 2nd counselor in the Young Women. I truly believe I was given that calling to help me. I kept saying to the counselor who called me that I did not think I was the right person for the position. But, I realize now that this calling was given to me to help strengthen my testimony.
6. I am thankful for the gospel. I am grateful to have that anchor to keep me grounded. Life has its ups and downs and I don't know where I would be without the knowledge of our Savior Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for us.
7. I am thankful for books. If ever I get in a rut and just need to escape, I'll pick up a good book and transport myself into a different world. Sometimes that's all I need to give me a boost is an hour or so to step out of this world and into someone elses.
8. I am thankful for my freedom. I couldn't imagine living in a different country where you didn't have the right to choose. Or the right to be who you wanted or to say what you wanted, especially for women.
9. I am thankful for Lasik eye surgery. I had the surgery done 7 years ago and it was money well spent. I went through my childhood and most of my adult life not experiencing some things because of having contacts/glasses. And to be able to have those freedoms is wonderful.
10. I am thankful for babysitters. I love my kids to death, but there are some nights where getting away and having a nice 'adult' conversation without having to chase kids around is wonderful.

I'm grateful for this time of year so that I can take a moment to look at everything I am thankful for and what it all means to me.

I hope you all had a very happy Thanksgiving.

super fruits + delicious = Seven+

Duane and I have stumbled upon a money making opportunity that has gotten us very excited. A couple weeks ago, Duane’s brother came to us saying he heard about a supplement drink that is loaded with some of the most nutritious ingredients on earth. At first, we thought, oh no, another nasty tasting drink like Noni Juice or Xango. I know those drinks have health benefits, but I’m not the kind of person that will choke down something nasty for my health. So, when Duane handed me 1 oz. of the juice and said this is all you have to drink a day, I thought, ok but it better not have an after taste. I took the swallow and was quite amazed at how good it was. I read some of the pamphlets, looked at their website (www.exfuze.com) and went to a meeting to hear what all the hype was about and this is what they said…

The drink is called Seven+ developed by eXfuze.

Where Noni Juice and Xango only have 1 fruit eXfuze combines several fruits to make a nutritional drink that has even more healing power. Exfuze combines extracts from the following botanicals – Gac, Acai, Goji, Noni, Fucoidan, Mangosteen and Seabuckthorn – along with Pomegranate, Wild Blueberries, Aloe Vera and Concord Grapes. The fruits in Seven+ have been known to have a great impact on health. For example, they cleanse the body of toxins, increase your energy, help you sleep better, supports blood glucose control, aids appetite control, decrease recovering time after workouts, reduce inflammation and so much more.

My sister-in-law, who has diabetes, is drinking Seven+ and has noticed a dramatic change in her blood sugar level. I know people with knee pain, shoulder pain, etc. and are experiencing less and less discomfort. And I, myself, have been sleeping better.

Having Seven+ help with our friends and family was wonderful! We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to become a distributor of this great product. Because they are just starting out as a company and have great potential of becoming big, getting in on the ground floor will give us a great opportunity to make some money.

Duane has always been a skeptic when it comes to multi level marketing, but this one is structured with better numbers and with a better pay out for those distributing.

We’re more then excited to see if this is what we have been waiting for to change our lives and give us a better financial future.

Kaman's 'naughty chair'

I decided about a month ago to start sending Kaman to the "naughty chair" when he is bad. He has been a little aggressive lately, and whether that's a boy thing or not, I needed to fixed it. He likes to hit people, things, what ever is close, etc., when he doesn't get his way. He'll also throw his toys at you when he gets mad.

I've been watching a show called the "Supernanny" for quite a while and I got a few ideas from it. When a child misbehaves you are first to give him a warning. If he does the act again you are then supposed to get down to his level, speak in a firm voice, tell him what he did wrong and why you are putting him in the 'naughty chair'. Then you place him in the chair, step, pad, corner, etc., and leave him there for 1 minute of each year old he/she is. If the child keeps getting up from the step you are to keep putting him back until he stays there for the allotted time. Sometimes on the show this could take hours, but sticking with it is what works. After the time is up, get down to his level, tell him what he did wrong and why you put him there. Then tell him you want an apology. The first time we did this with Kaman he did not want to say the word "sorry". It was a power struggle between him and me and he was not going to budge and say he was sorry. Needless to say, he stayed in the chair until he said sorry. Well, he finally got the point that you sit in the chair, mom comes to get you, and you say sorry. And, unfortunately, it has become a game for him. When I start to tell him no he says, "go to the bad chair", while saying it with a smile. Then he'll race to the chair and sit down. At this point, I'm thinking, this is not working he likes it too much. Something had to change. So, today I changed chairs and moved it to a different spot. Bingo! He didn't like that. Now maybe the technique Supernanny taught me might work. :)

This is the first 'naughty chair'. I think the fact that it was in his room wasn't a good idea.

And this is his new chair and the new place. That chair doesn't look as comfortable and the area is in the living room. Not too exciting - just what I wanted. :)

Husband tag....

I don't talk enough about Duane on this blog, so here is a tag that will help you get to know the other half...

What's your husband's name? Michael Duane Howell
How long have you guys been married? 11.5 years
How long did you date? 8 months
How old is he? 33
Who eats more sweets? Duane. I don't have a big love for sweets.
Who said "I love you" first? I think it was me or was it Duane....hmmmmm. Duane will probably say him. But, I think it was me. :)
Who is taller? Duane. He's 6'
Who is the better singer? Duane is by far. He loves to sing, too.
Who is smarter? ME! No really, I think Duane is, he loves to learn, especially when it comes to useless knowledge.
Who does the laundry? I do.
Who pays the bills? I do.
Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? If you are looking at it, me.
Who mows the lawn? Duane
Who cooks dinner? I do.
Who drives? Duane does unless he has to be dropped off somewhere and then it's easier for me to drive. But, he'll complain the whole time while holding on to the handle above his head.
Who is the first to say they are wrong? Oh, that's definitely me.;) Ha, ha! We are both stubborn in that respect.
Who kissed who first? He kissed me first. We started our relationship out as just friends and made sure that we both knew we weren't looking for anything more. But, one day while we were saying good bye for the night, he stole a kiss, and that changed everything.
Who asked out who first? Our first date was a set up from a mutual friend at R.C. Willey. I had seen him passing by my desk and thought I knew who they were setting me up with, but it was pretty much a blind date. That was the worst date I have been on and I was more then anxious to get home. But, at the end of the date he wouldn't let me go until I agreed to a second date. I reluctantly did and after the second date he had redeemed himself and we were inseparable from then on.
Who wears the pants? We both do.

Ok, now I get to tag someone. I tag....my soccer gals - Heather Campbell & Sarah Coyne.

Halloween fun 2008

Halloween this year was busy, as usual. We started off with the girls school parade at 9:30am. Then back home to get the house ready for Halloween night. After the girls got back from school we headed over to my sister Trisha's work, Generations Network. Then after going through the haunted "offices" we went to visit my parents in Orem. Next we headed home for dinner and to take the girls over to the Wolsey's, in Alpine, to do there trick-or-treating with their cousins. Duane took Kaman to some of the houses in the neighborhood while I relaxed at home handing out candy. Halloween is our 2nd favorite holiday and we, well, I should say, I like to have fun with the Halloween decorations. We put our 'tame' decorations out for the whole month of October then on Halloween day we put up the 'scarier' stuff. Here are a couple pictures of our Halloween this year.

The kids in front of our front door.

All of us at Trisha's work. Doug (Sheriff), Heather (Orange shirt), Trisha (Mario), Danielle (Pirate), Ashley (Vampire), Kaman (Dracula), Mya (Devil) Twins (Thing 1 and Thing 2). I didn't dress up (didn't have time) so I'm taking the picture.

Ashley showing us her scary face.

soccer tournament update....

Update on last post.....We won our first game, lost the 2nd game and lost the 3rd game. We never made it to the Championship game. We did our best this season and came in 3rd place. Good enough. Hopefully, we can win it next year.
