What A Difference One Person Can Make

Danielle did something today that gave me affirmation that I’m actually raising my children right. She came home yesterday and told me she was excited to go to school today because there was a new kid joining her class. Well, first off, I thought that was cute that she was excited for the new child. Anyway, when she got home from school she told me that she had written the child a note welcoming him to her school and that she hoped he would like it here. After wards, a couple kids made fun of her. Why? Why is it that in our society it is socially unacceptable to go out of your way to welcome a new kid to school? But, what I think is amazing, was even though she probably knew she would get laughed at, she did it anyway. That completely touched my heart and it makes me smile to know my child is not afraid to do something that other “cool” kids would perceive as “un cool”. My kids absolutely amaze me and it makes me happy to know the lessons I teach my kids are actually sinking in.

Here's a recreation of Danielle's note. I wanted her to remember this moment so I had her write it again.

If we only took a moment in our day to do something out of the ordinary for someone else whose to say what a difference one person can make.
